Week 7 News


Arriving Late

Unfortuantley Prep White has a number of chidren who are constantly arriving to school late.  Can you please try to have your child at school no later than 8.35am, as they are missing the beginning of each day and learning is occuring.  If you are late on occassions, can you please make sure you sign in at the office.

Parent Teacher Interviews


This term in week 10, we will have Parent Teacher Interviews.  This is a 15minute session where we can discuss your child's learning and any concerns you may have.  You will need to book a time through our PTO System.  An email with details will be sent home soon.


Sight Words


We ask that you do not mark the children's sight word books.  We will mark the books each week.  Could you please ensure to continually go over all the popcorn words, even the ones that are marked as known, as children forget very quickly.  Thank you for your cooperation.




Workshops


This week our big book in reading workshops was The Monsters' Party.  Ask your child what wasone of the monsters party tricks?  In reading and writing workshops we have explored the vowels a,e,i,o and u and phonologically, we are learning to rhyme production.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 6 and its name (six) and patterning. Our concept this week has been ordering events within a week.





Unit Work


 This week the children have choosen one animal and planed and designed a Poster to display their knowledge of the animal and its habitat.



Religion


In Religion this Term we are exploring the parts of a Church.  This week we have practiced giving our Church Tours.








Our Value this week is understanding.

Week 6 News

Our Library is under renovation.  As a result we are unable to have our normal Library Lesson at this time.  Please note that Library borrowing will also be postponed until further notice.

This week our big book in reading workshops was Ten Big Dinosaurs.  Ask your child how many dinosaurs were running?  In reading and writing workshops we have explored the vowel o and phonologically, we are learning to rhyme production.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 5 and its name (five) and we are our 3D shapes. Our concept this week has been ordering events within a week.





Unit Work


 This week we have begun the final stages of our unit.  The children will choose one animal and plan and design a Poster to display their knowledge of the animal and its habitat.



Religion


In Religion this Term we are exploring the parts of a Church.  This week we have planned and are using our plan to build our own Church in our groups.

Week 5 News

Brain Break

 Could you please make sure that all brain break is labelled with your child's name.  We have a constant battle with Bananas.  Please send all brain break in a marked container, ziplock bag or with their name written on the skin of the fruit.  Thank you for your support.

St Bernardine's Wellness Week

Next week is St B's inaugural Wellbeing week.  What does this mean?  Well for the students (and parents) there will be no homework.  It also means some alternative lessons are being taught compared to traditional lessons.  Activities such as meditation, mindfulness and fun will occur! On the 18th of May we will celebrate St Bernardine's Day.  We begin with a whole school Mass in Siena at 9am.  All are welcome.  It is a Free Dress Day with a gold coin donation.  On the day a sausage sizzle and ice block will be provided by the school for lunch.  There will also be a Nexus Arts performance during the day for all students.


Workshops


This week our big book in reading workshops was The Farm Concert.  Ask your child why couldn't the farmer sleep?  In reading and writing workshops we have explored the letters l and b and phonologically, we are learning to rhyme production.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 4 and its name (four) and we are our 3D shapes. Our concept this week has been sorting.





Unit Work


 This week we continued to work on our Raiforst Habitat.  We discussed where in the Rainforest Habitat a parrot and snake would live and what they eat.  We are discussing that habitats are animals homes and they give them food, water and shelter.



Religion


In Religion this Term we are exploring the parts of a Church.  This week we finished our display  and built a Church as a class.  (see Twitter for Photos)

Week 4 News

Don't forget Mother's Day Liturgy is at 7.15am in the Church tomorrow morning.




Our Library is under renovation.  As a result we are unable to have our normal Library Lesson at this time.  Please note that Library borrowing will also be postponed until further notice.  In order to get the Junior Fiction section of our Library ready we ask that you return your child's library book.  Sorry for the confusion and thank you for your understanding.






Brain Break

This week our big book in reading workshops was I've Been Eating Blackberries!  Ask your child how the little girl in the story felt?  In reading and writing workshops we have explored the vowel u and phonologically, we are learning to detect rhyme.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 3 and its name (three) and we are exploring ABB, AAB and ABC patterns. Our concept this week has been ordering and sorting.





Unit Work


 This week we moved ontoour Raiforst Habitat.  We discussed where in the Rainforest Habitat a parrot would live and what they eat.  We are discussing that habitats are animals homes and they give them food, water and shelter.



Religion


In Religion this Term we are exploring the parts of a Church.  This week we put together our display  and discussed the altar, bible and ambo.  We also learnt that one of the leadlight windows in the church was a donation made by one of our students Grandparents.









Our Value this week is Kindness.
