Week 4 News

Things to remember:
Under 8's Day
We will celebrate under 8's on Tuesday afternoon.  The children will have the last hour of the day to celebrate being under 8 years of age, by participating in a number of fun activities on the Area 1 Oval.


Book Week Parade
On Thursday we have our Book Week Parade.  We ask that children dress as their favourite book character.  They are required to change back into their school uniform after the parade, so please pack their full school uniform in their bag.

Science Incursion
This week the Year Two classes  attending an incursion from Big Bang Education to support our All Mixed Up Science Unit.
We have come up with some inquiry questions that we will be reflecting with.
What is a mixture?
Who uses a mixture?
When do we use mixtures?
Why do we need/use mixtures?


Author Visit


As part of our Narrative Unit we have been blessed to have an amazing author visit.  Sarah Mounsey is the author of Purple Paw Prints and she will be helping the children to discover their inner author!
We can't wait to meet her on Wednesday!

Week 1 News

Science Incursion
This week the Year Two classes will be attending an incursion from Big Bang Education to support our All Mixed Up Science Unit.

 Date:                            Friday 27/7/2018
Time:                            Year 2 Show with Brett Pearce at 9:10AM

2N Workshop at 9:40AM
2G Workshop at 11:30AM
2M Workshop at 12:30PM
2W Workshop at 1:55PM

Place:                            Sienna Hall – St Bernardine’s Primary School
What to Wear:                 Day Uniform

 

About the day:
The children will participate in a two hour workshop to explore the properties of different substances.  They will complete two different investigations.  Using safe chemicals students will measure, mix and observe some amazing changes right before their very eyes.

 The cost of this incursion will be covered by the Levy in the School Fees.

Monument Museum
Next Thursday from 2:45pm until 3pm, we will be opening up our classrooms for the other students in Year 2 to check out each others monuments,  parents will be able to attend as well.

Homework
Please ensure that you continue to hand in homework espescially home readers on a daily basis. It is imperative to read to your child as much as possible!

ANZAC Inquiry
It is great to see many students demonstrating their learning during our information report writing as part of English and HASS. Well done, everyone!

MONUMENTS
A massive thank-you to all the parents who donated boxes for our monument building day. We will be sending information on a day you can come and view these displays of workmanship.

READING
Please ensure that you still read with your child every night as we are seeing much growth across the year level. Keep it up!

HOMEWORK
A reminder that homework is due on Monday for 2Navy and 2Maroon students, however it is due on Tuesday for 2Green and 2White

Term 2 - Week 6

ST BERNARDINE'S DAY
On Wednesday 23rd of May we are celebrating The Feast Day of St Bernardine. We are having a whole school mass at Siena Hall at 9am where we will also bless the naming of our school buildings reflecting the Franciscan order which St Bernardine attended. We will also celebrate with activities and games.

WELL-BEING WEEK
This week is well-being week at St Bernardine's, this means its a time for family and friends and no homework will be provided for the week.

HOME READERS
Please return all kit folders, so teachers can begin adjusting home readers and levels according to growth. Please note, that kit folders will be returned in Week 7. This will allow you to return your kit folder during the week.

BOXES
A big thank you for everyone contributing to our ANZAC Monument building day, we will be building our monuments this week!

ANZAC - Inquiry Questions
Today, a note was sent regarding our learning of ANZAC with 5 inquiry questions for you to collaborate with your child in learning about these questions. We encourage you to talk with your child, investigate, look at pictures, whatever is easy for you to understand in their learning. If you have any ANZAC memorabilia to share, we welcome this sharing in our classrooms.

Homework
Homework will be sent this week, either today or tomorrow from your classroom teacher. If you still have your homework book at home, please send it in ASAP.

Dance Fever
Dance Fever will be held every Tuesday afternoon

Camp Quality
Camp Quality made a presentation today for the year level to inform them about leukaemia.


Our Lady of Lourdes
This Friday a presentation will be made by Our Lady of Lourdes for the girls.

Caritas Presentation
This Friday a Caritas update on the amount we collected during Lent will be made in Siena at 2:30pm

Cross Country is on Tuesday the 27th of March at 11.40am on the top oval.

This week in Year 2:

Workshops
In reading and writing workshops we are focusing on our reading strategies and retell skills. Daily we are completing writing tasks to build our writing stamina.  We are following a writing process this term to create a Recount. Each class has different shared text for the week. Ask your child to what the main idea in their story was?  Our grammar focus was verbs. In Maths we are continuing daily number sense, number patterns and we had a focus week on money.



Religion
We are learning how we can be like Jesus, in particular through the Season of Lent.  We will explore and pose questions about Jesus and make connections with how we can be like Jesus in our lives.




Unit Work
This week we explored our Science focus of Push and Pull.  The students rotated through a number of work stations completing hands on activities.  They will put this theory to the test through the construction of a Paper Plane.  We wonder whose paper plane will travel the furthest......
