Units of work

In English, the students will be following a writing process to create a narrative.  Students will continue daily reading workshops to develop their ability to read fluently and comprehend familiar texts.  Orally, students will complete a homework activity to present an explanation of a mixture in connection with our Science Unit. In Maths, students will continue to develop their computational thinking skills and number sense.  Through a range of inquiry-based activities students will identify and explain strategies to solve problems that allow them to demonstrate mathematical reasoning.  In Religion, the children will investigate the concept of forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  They will explore how they can nurture their relationship with God.  In Science, students will explore two units of work.  Unit 1 – ‘All Mixed Up’ allows students to explore chemical change through mixtures.  They will produce their own mixture and design and create a package and commercial to advertise their mixture. Unit 2 – ‘Whizzy –Wonderful water’ offers students with the opportunity to develop and understand and appreciation for our precious natural resource – water. Through hands-on investigations, students will explore how water is used, where water comes from, and how to use it responsibility to teach them sustainable practices for caring for God’s creation.

Birthdays

If your child would like to share a birthday treat with the class please send either small cupcakes, pieces of slice or biscuits for each class member rather than one big cake as we do not keep knives in the classroom.  We all currently have 30 children in the class.

Homework

The homework will be given out on a Monday and needs to be returned on the following Monday.

It is an important part of the continuation of learning between school and home.  This term the children will need to prepare a simple oral presentation as part of our Science Unit.  A letter has been glued into your child’s homework book to explain the task.  Your child’s presentation date is highlighted at the bottom of the sheet.

Munch and Crunch

We will continue this term to have Munch and Crunch.  This will be a healthy snack of a piece of fruit, vegetable or salad at around 9:40 each morning.  The idea is to refuel the students’ brains as often there is a long break between breakfast and lunch.

Thank you for your continued support and if you do have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
