Week 8 News

Reminders

FATHERS DAY LITURGY IS AT 7.15am tomorrow morning in the Church - all are welcome to attend.

Arriving Late

Unfortuantley Prep White has a number of chidren who are constantly arriving to school late.  Can you please try to have your child at school no later than 8.35am, as they are missing the beginning of each day and learning is occuring.  If you are late on occassions, can you please make sure you sign in at the office.

Sight Words


We ask that you do not mark the children's sight word books.  We will mark the books each week.  Could you please ensure to continually go over all the popcorn words, even the ones that are marked as known, as children forget very quickly.  Thank you for your cooperation.




Workshops
 Our big book this week was The Particular Cow.  Ask your child what the particuar cow found on his walk? In reading and writing workshops we have explored the 'ar' sound and phonologically, we are learning to segement and blend CVC words.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 7 and its name (seven). Our investigation this week has been exploring the language of measurement.  Students have used the words longest, shortest, tallest, biggest, heaviest and lightest when comparing objects.





Unit Work




This week we have started our History and Visual Arts Unit.  We will be exploring the Aboriginal Seasons through art work and the story 'Ernie Dances the Didgeridoo". We will also use Aboriginal Dreamtime Stories to explore using an historical timeline. This week our story was 'How the Kangaroos got their tail'.



Religion


We have continued our unit Hereos of the Bible.  This week we looked at how we can be a hero like David.








Our Value this week is Compassion.

In reading and writing workshops we have explored the letters x and y and phonologically, we are learning to segement and blend CVC words.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 5 and its name (five). Our investigation this week has been about collecting data.  Students had to explore the best way to collect data to answer the inquiry question - 'Who is Prep White's favourite book character?'.  We will answer questions about our Collected Data this week.

Our investiagtion this week has been about collecting data.  Students had to explore the best way to collect datato answer the inquiry question - 'Who is Prep White's favourite book character?'.





Unit Work


We are working on our English Unit 'Who is it?'  The children choose their own character and wrote three clues.  This week the student's presented their clues and we had the chance to guess 'Who Is It?'. We finsihed our seasons unit by constructing a Postcard of our favourite Season.  Check the Portfolio at the end of the term, to see our wonderful work.



Religion


We have continued our unit Hereos of the Bible.  This week we looked at the story of David and Goliath and why he is a hero in of the Bible.

Week 4 News

Reminders

Monday is a Public Holiday for the EKKA, there will be no school.

Please return home readers on Tuesdays and Fridays for changing.  To have your reader changed, it must be signed off on the parent signature page.



The Book Character Parade will be on the10th of August at 9.30am in the Hall.  Children are encouraged to arrive at school dressed up as their favourite book character.  Children are expected to change into their school uniform once the parade is over.

This week our big book in reading workshops was The Jigaree. Ask your child to tell you one thing a Jigaree can do.  In reading and writing workshops we have explored the ng sound and phonologically, we are learning to segement and blend CVC words.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 3 and its name (three). Our investiagtion this week has been about collecting data.  Students had to explore the bestway to collect datato answer the inquiry question - 'Who is Prep White's favourite book character?'.





Unit Work


We are working on our English Unit 'Who is it?'  This week the children choose their own character and wrote three clues.  Next week student's will present their clues and we will have the chance to guess 'Who Is It?'. We explored the season of Summer in Science and created some amazing art work.  Look on Twitter for photos of our creations.

We have started our unit Hereos of the Bible.  This week we looked at the story of Joseph and why he is a hero.  Ask your child how they can be a hero like Joseph?
