Week 6 News

Reminders

Please return home readers on Tuesdays and Fridays for changing.  To have your reader changed, it must be signed off on the parent signature page.

Sight Words

We ask that you do not mark the children's sight word books.  We will mark the books each week.  Could you please ensure to continually go over all the popcorn words, even the ones that are marked as known, as children forget very quickly.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Workshops
Our big book this week was The Mango Tree.  Ask you child what happened to the mangoes? In reading and writing workshops we have explored the letters x and y and phonologically, we are learning to segement and blend CVC words.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 5 and its name (five). Our investigation this week has been about collecting data.  Students had to explore the best way to collect data to answer the inquiry question - 'Who is Prep White's favourite book character?'.  We will answer questions about our Collected Data this week.

Unit Work

This week we have started our History and Visual Arts Unit.  We will be exploring the Aboriginal Seasons through art work and the story 'Ernie Dances the Didgeridoo". We will also use Aboriginal Dreamtime Stories to explore using an historical timeline. This week our story was the Tiddalick the Frog.

Religion

We have continued our unit Hereos of the Bible.  This week we looked at the story of David and Goliath and why he is a hero of the Bible.

Our Value this week is Trustworthiness.
