Week 4 News

Workshops

This week our big book in reading workshops was 'What can Jigarees do?'  Ask your child want can a Jigaree do?  In reading and writing workshops we have explored the vowel I and phonologically, we are learning about words in sentences.  In Maths workshops we are learning about the number 4, AB patterns and rectangles and triangles.

Unit Work

This week we continue learning about how our bodies can feel safe and unsafe.  We have discussed who can help us if we feel unsafe, they are our safety helpers.  We concluded our Vision Statement Unit with our Presentation on Tuesday in the Church.  Prep White will let their compassion shine, as we promise to love, learn and listen.

Religion

In daily prayer we are learning about how to prayer and we are using the creation story to make thank you prayers.  Our unit work has been focusing on making good and bad choices, as we begin to explore the parable of 'The Good Samaritan'.

A few reminders:

Brain Break
Every day the children will have a 'Brain Break' to help them refuel and boost their concentration in the classroom.  Please send in a healthy snack (fruit or vegetables only) preferably cut up, in a named sealed container to be eaten mid-morning.  This break will only be short (approximately 5 minutes) so please keep this in mind when preparing this snack.

Please help your child to be aware of their Brain Break.  Please show them if you have placed it in another container or if it is in their lunch box.  As of next week they will be unpacking all their things by themselves, so it is important they know what it looks like.

KIT Folders
The KIT folders are to be returned to school daily.  They will be sent home each afternoon and it is important that they are returned each morning.

 Project Compassion

As part of Lent our school takes part in Project Compassion.  We ask the children to donate money to help others less fortunate then themselves.  We have a box on our prayer table that the children will be asked to place their donation in. Each week the Year 6 leaders will collect our box and count our donations.  We have a poster beside our door to mark how much money our class has raised.  Each week I will tweet a photo update of our total.  Lent is about giving and Project Compassion helps to give back to our world.  Each week they will hear a story about how the money will help other people in our world.  We ask they children to help with chores at home to be able to collect money to donate.  Your donations are greatly appreciated.

Don't forget to bring in your Treasure Boxes!
