Week 2 News

This week in 2 Navy:

Workshops
In reading and writing workshops we are focusing on our reading strategies and questioning and inferencing skills. Daily we are completing writing tasks to build our writing stamina with flash writing.  We are following a writing process this term to create Information Reports.  This week the children wrote an Information Report on Mealworms. We will use our high 5 hand to check our sentences.  Our shared text this week was Simpson and Duffy.  Ask your child what Simpson and Duffy did during the war? Our grammar focus was nouns, verbs and adjectives.  In Maths we are continuing daily number fact practice, number patterns and we explored the concept of 3D shapes.

Religion
We have started to explore what a covenant is.  We are learning about the Bible and in particular the stories we find in the Old Testament.  This week we explored the Old Testament Story of the 10 Commandments, found in the book of Exodus




Unit Work
This week we explored what a Monument is and what is in a monument?  Children worked on writing their own inquiry questions about monuments?




Donations
As described in our homework book, the children will be designing and creating a ANZAC Monument this term.  Can I please request that throughout the term you send in cardboard boxes, rolls, and any other craft equipment that we will be able to use to construct our Monuments.

Week 1 News

This week in 2 Navy:

Workshops
In reading and writing workshops we are focusing on our reading strategies and retell skills. Daily we are completing writing tasks to build our writing stamina with flash writing.  Our focus this week was writing about our Holiday.  We will use our high 5 hand to check our sentences.  Our shared text this week was the Easter Story (resurrection of Jesus).  Ask your child where Jesus was placed to rest? Our grammar focus was nouns, verbs and adjectives.  In Maths we are continuing daily number fact practice, number patterns and exploring the concept of 3 digit numbers.

Religion
We have started to explore what a covenant is.  We are learning about the Bible and in particular the stories we find in the Old Testament.




Unit Work
This week we began our HASS Unit.  We will be exploring what ANZAC means.  Ask your child what is ANZAC and what happens on ANZAC Day?


Donations

Daily we are completing writing tasks to build our writing stamina.  Our focus this week is writing a response to a stimulus.  We will use our high 5 hand to check our sentences.  Our shared text this week was a non-fiction text called Tadpole to Frog.  Ask your child what is the lifecycle of a frog? Our grammar focus was verbs.  In Maths we are continuing daily number fact practice, number patterns and exploring word problems.


Religion
In Religion we have begun to explore the Story of Easter and continue a focus on the Liturgical Season of Lent.



Caritas Appeal

We raised $26 this week.  We are on our way to our goal of $75, to help buy a pig for a Philippine family.  Please help us to reach our goal. Thank you for your generosity. 



Unit Work
We have continued to explore lifecycles this week, in particular we have been comparing and contrasting the lifecycle of a human to the lifecycle of mealworm.  The children will observe mealworms within the classroom, as they move through their lifecycle and record their observations.

Week 8 News






This week in 2 Navy:

Workshops
In reading and writing workshops we are focusing on our reading strategies and  the comprehension strategy of main idea. Daily we are completing writing tasks to build our writing stamina.  Our focus this week is writing a response to a stimulus.  We will use our high 5 hand to check our sentences.  Our shared text this week was a non-fiction text called The life of a Butterfly  .  Ask your child to tell you three facts they learnt about a butterfly? Our grammar focus was verbs.  In Maths we are continuing daily number fact practice, number patterns and exploring the concept of 2 digit addition.


Religion
We have continued to explore ways we can be stewards of God's Creation.  We reflected on how and why we can be stewards.

Special Event


The last week of this Term I will be taking one week of Long Service Leave.  Due to my absence, I will be having Showcase Night on Wednesday the 22nd of March from 3pm - 4pm, in the classroom.  The afternoon will run the same as a normal Showcase evening.  Remember this is a time to view your child's wonderful learning. If you would like to discuss their learning please contact me to organise an appropriate time.  I understand that this may not suit everyone and to allow for an evening session, the classroom will be open on Wednesday the 29th of March as per the rest of the school.

Week 7 News

This week in 2 Navy:

Workshops

Daily we are completing writing tasks to build our writing stamina.  Our focus this week was adding adjectives to make our writing sparkle.  We will use our high 5 hand to check our sentences.  Our shared text this week was a non-fiction text called The Life of a Duck.  Ask your child to tell you three facts they learnt about a duck? Our grammar focus was verbs.  In Maths we are continuing daily number fact practice, number patterns and exploring the concept of 2D shapes.



Religion
We have begun to look at ways we can be stewards of God's Creation.  Ask your child ways in which they can care for all of God's Creations.
